Your Friends at SBacoustics
As soon as Madisound gets them in I'm game for some new SB Acoustics designs. Thanks for chiming in here. You're drivers are great values and I can't wait until the new ultra high end drivers come out. Really looking forward to it.

whats up with those drivers? Why have they been out of stock so long?
Anyway, as far as SB Acoustic designs, what do you think about a tmww with the 4" mid and dual 8" woofers? Kinda like an affordable Ekta Grand

They've actually never been in stock. They should be in soon though. I think a TMWW with these drivers would be a great value.

tmww with accuton/ss
Hello Jed,
I was looking at the duet10a, and thinking about a dual-woofer version with the same ss 26w alu woofer, just doubled. That would probably also raise sensitivity a bit, also matching with a higher-sensitivity tweeter if necessary?

We could do that fairly easily by modifying the current cabinet depth. Would you go sealed or ported? If this is something you are interested in building as a custom kit send me an email and I can get a quote for you. I could also build the cabinets and offer a complete speaker.

Thanks for the quick answer! At the moment, I'm just playing with the idea. Probably I would go ported, and I was really wondering if one could get like 92db sensitivity out of this config?

With a pair of SS26W wired in parallel, the system will be closer to 90db (that's if using enough BSC to keep them away from the walls--which is what I recommend for a speaker of this level). If you want 92db we could use less BSC but they might sound bright; unless close to a wall.
Another option is to simply use the 4 ohm version of the 26W. I have a crossover modeled for that already and it'll give you 2-3dbs over the stock 8ohm woofer.

I was wondering if you would be designing a 2-way with XT25 and SB17 anytime soon

I can add it to the list. Another option is the SBA ring dome tweeter. I've got a small 2 way to finish up and the Tombstones Mk2, then I'm free to work on some other custom designs. If you are interested and serious about it shoot me an email. I'd likely use a PE cabinet to take the measurements however the SB17 likes a bit of volume to work properly-- about 20Liters or so IIRC.

ripcard wrote:This may not be what you were expecting... but there was a design mentioned on your old blog that I was hoping to see finalized. It was a bipole surround. I can't remember the details and I can't find it since you've updated your website. I've been looking for a DIY surround speaker along the lines of the Definitive Technology, Paradigm and others V shaped speakers. This type of speaker seems very rare in DIY.

I'm thinking a single RS180 in the middle with the TB W4 and Vifa XT25 paired up on either side should work nicely with my 2 Ts when they are done. I know you are developing the 1 S but I would really like to try a bipole for my weird room because there is no ideal listening position or speaker placement options for that matter using a direct firing speaker. I have this setup now and depending where you are in the room and how many people are in it, the sound from the back channels is dramatically affected. Wall mounting 2 thirds room distance from the mains relatively high up will, IMO, fill the room with surround sound and leave more options for furniture and people placement in my particular setup.
Now a V shaped double 1 S would probably be awesome but may end up being a little too large.
I agree x's 10! This type of design would be a boon to the DYI HT folks. Especially the Paradigms, I've actually heard those and they are truly impressive!

A lot of guys are going with 7 channels, so I don't see much of the point of a bipole/dipole surround in a setup like that. The processors can do a lot of the work, but you are right that it would be interesting and add yet another option-- especially for guys only wanting 5 channels.
