An Eidolon-style cabinet was my first launching off point. The driver complement from the Duet ought to make a good starting point for it if someone can get the diffraction model and crossover right (I gave up and went with the Duet). My next tricks after the Duet are going to be a center channel and two rear mini-monitors using the W15CY001's I got from Jed's parts closet. I think a full-complement of speakers would be of benefit to people embarking on a build, but the main LR towers always get the glory. Smile

Hi Jed,

New here and love the website and offerings. I'm just curious where you are with regard to the minuet5? That is the form I'm interested in.

Cheers,

Mike

Hi Mike,

I'm looking at a 4-5week completion date for the Minuet5. It'll be worth the wait!

I'm going to uphold my philosophy of not charging more than retail for the sum of the parts. So the drivers are $1332 and crossovers will be a few hundred more.

Expect the F3 to be around 52hz but the cabinet will be a ported 20L, and you'll be able to use a PE box if you want. Front dimensions are 8 X 20". Should be a real sleek design and I can't wait to spend many hours tweaking and listening to it.

I have to say that I'm very excited about this design, Jed. I've been wanting to build a monitor MTM with these very drivers. cheers
I don't want to rush you or anything 'cause I want you to get it right, but the sooner the better. Smile

Awesome! I'll definitely keep you updated. I'm cutting the baffles this weekend and hopefully running a few tests. 2 ways generally don't take all that long, but I want this one to be perfect.

Are you looking for a kit or finished speaker? I can do both now that I'm working with a professional cabinet maker.

I'm looking for a kit. While I'm definately no pro I have fun building the cabinets.

Thanks for the update,

Mike

You're very welcome. I'm also in the process of designing a Watt/Puppy killer at a fraction of the cost. That won't be for awhile though because I have so many other design ideas.

Hi Jed, i have been following your work on ht guide and these forums here and needless to say you have done a great deal for DIY audiophiles , your 4T and 4CC are stellar performers from what i have heard/read about them and the curved towers that you and doug built are something else eh..... now i have a few suggestions (as i am not as gifted with cabinet making skills as other guys here and limited in my knowledge about circuits boards etc) so i can just request you ... what is your take on using 3 W instead of 4 as 2 is a bit less and 4W it a bit too much.... and what about using some eye candy like HiVi M8N 8or HiVi M8a 8" or the Kevlar ones like HiVi D8G 8" in the towers with 3W and same thing with Usher 8945A or Usher 8945P ..... and as for surround some thing like these
http://www.axiomaudio.com/qs8.html
I had these for about 2 years and i loved the way they brought out the subtle effects to life and at the same time i hated the metal cones so i had a strange love hate relationship with them but still loved the design which dispersed sound magically........ and in regards to cabinets have you thought about getting them prefabricated like PE cabinets from China/India, etc.

First off... thank you so much for you compliments. There are so many great options to pick from and I agree that the drivers you mentioned really might be something in a Dynamic Series type enclosure. Right now I'm sticking with the kits until my business can expand enough where I can hire others to run internal operations such as answering emails, website development, etc... so that I can work on new products full time. I'm working on something new every day, just there is only so much time in the day to do everything.

I've also looked into getting cabinets made overseas, but I'm a bit of a diehard and would like to have someone in America get the cabinet business. Yeah, it might cost a bit more but I think it's worth it. I'm also a good woodworker myself, and if I had the time I'd crank out the designs, measure them and do everything I could to offer 100s of different speakers. However, that just isn't possible at this point in time. Even so, I've received a lot of positive feedback from my customers about the values that I currently offer, and I definitely intend to continue that mantra for all my designs. I think people will catch on what a great value DIY is and jump on board. For those that don't have a table saw, I can make cabinets, or I can recommend several others that will do that for you at not that great a cost --with all things considered.

There are so many ways to go about speaker design. There are so many great drivers to look into and new drivers come out every month. I fully intend to make sure that what I offer represents the best value per dollar and sound that bellies the small price of entry. Customization is always an option!

If you are interested in a 2T with usher woofers by all means shoot me an email and I can work up some pricing for you on that. Anything is possible with the right ingredients.

Regards,

Jed

Jed,

While I am still hugely interested in these, I've unfortunately become a victim of the economy. Hopefully I will be able to
still get them in the future, but all hobbies are currently on hiatus. I hope things turn around for both of our sakes. Very Happy

Mike

Hi Mike,

I hope things turn around very soon. Great sound sure helps get through the hard times, but not if it is going to create a financial strain. I completely understand.

Don't be a stranger and pop in to see the recent creations.

Take care,
Jed
