Dynamic 1S kit build

Re: Dynamic 1S kit build
Alright. I've been rather cautious with my approach for the 1s. I want it to be absolutely perfect for a variety of different people. It will now be in a PE curved MTM cabinet. DIY cabinet builders can build a square box version as long as the front baffle layout is the same. There will be a PVC pipe insert to separate the mid chamber from the woofer section of the box. More to come this weekend. This may very well be my best seller because it'll have the sound of the rest of the Dynamic Lineup, just less power handling because it uses only one 4 ohm woofer.

Re: Dynamic 1S kit build
Well, I got the curved cabinets and I didn't like the way the drivers would look in it, so I've got my cabinet maker working on some custom cabinets tomorrow. The cabinets will then be ready for measurements not this weekend, but the weekend following it. I think this is going to be better because I was also worried that the midrange wouldn't have enough room to breath if I used a narrow tunnel, like some other people do for their midrange chambers. In my experience, it's better to have the sidewalls of the midrange far enough away from the cone to minimize reflections from the sidewall. I'll post some pictures when my cabinets are done.

Jed,
I have no idea what these graphs mean. Knowing you, that means they sound good. How about a linky to some website explaining these graphs on your homepage? Or maybe a comparison image showing a mainstream speaker in the same cost bracket?
What is the cost for the kit?

The frequency response is flat within +- 2 db for most of the frequency band. Impedance is 4 ohms. Price is in the online store page. I'll continue to add more information as I have time, but I'm directing people here for now so I can answer questions.
Thank you for your interest and if there is any other info you would like feel free to ask.
Regards,
Jed

Thanks for the reply. What do you think about using this design as front mains for a music/HT 2.1 setup? They would be have to be in a bookshelf on their sides, and there would be no center channel.

I think it would work just fine because they can be placed close to a wall without sounding too warm. If you need more mid/treble it's just a tweak of 2 resistors and I could give you the values.

Posted some pics of the 1S on the main page. Check it out when you get a chance. This is a really great value and probably all one might need for a nice 3-way. I have them labeled as surrounds, but you could use them for mains as well.

Re: Dynamic 1S kit build
Jed, I hope to get started on my 1S's this week. I'm going to interlace the 1S build with my 2CC build. Since I place my current surrounds on stands and sit them out about a foot from the wall, I'd like to rear port the 1S. I would also like to roundover the baffle (as opposed to chamfer) and truncate the baffle below the woofer. This will allow me to match the Mod 2T's in looks. If you recall, my 2T's have a piano black, rounded over baffle that ends just below the bottom woofer to allow the veneer to show on the front lower part of the speaker. This look is being matched on my 2CC as well. See any issues?

I think the roundover and rear port will work well as long as the driver locations are preserved.

Yes, all other design parameters will remain exactly as you designed. I will start a new thread for the build.

Well, maybe a little white lie here. I want to move the port up, as well as to the rear. At the height of the tweeter. The binding post cup will be at the bottom.
Foresee a problem?

That should be okay.
